The Uttarakhand government has launched a new scheme of financial assistance for providing digital learning tools directly to the secondary school students. Under the scheme, money will be directly transferred to bank accounts so that students of Classes 10 and 12 in government schools can buy their own tablets.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during an event ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Vidyarthi Manthan-2026’, in which the CM had a direct interaction with 140 students selected from across the state.
The Campaign That Launched the Initiative
The students who participated in the event were selected through an idea-generation campaign ‘Kaisa Ho Mere Sapnon Ka Uttarakhand’. The campaign was an overwhelming success with over 2.67 lakh young people sharing their ideas, essays and suggestions for the future of the state. The most promising contributors were invited for a personal interaction with the Chief Minister.
How to pay for the Tablet
Instead of directly distributing devices, the government has opted for a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) model:
Who gets the money: Complete all fields. Students or parents/legal guardians
How it gets to them: straight into their bank accounts
What it is for: Buying a single tablet
Who can apply: Students studying in Class 10 and 12 in government schools in Uttarakhand
This method guaranties that government funds go directly to the beneficiaries, eliminating intermediaries, delays and leakages.
Why This Plan Counts
The initiative’s main goal is to close the digital divide between students who have technology and those who do not. For families with financial difficulties, the price of a tablet can be a major obstacle to online learning. By paying this cost, the scheme aims to:
Give digital learning resources to economically weaker students
Overhaul the state’s secondary education system
Promote self-directed study through use of technology
